My first Golu

This year Navarathri turns out to be slightly different than the last couple of years. Living in Bay Area and visiting the golu sale at Komala Vilas on El Camino Real made me buy some dolls as a last minute thing and keep the golu last weekend with whatever other stuff we could find at home to fill the padis. With K setting up the padis and offering his thoughts and me arranging the dolls, it was truly a couple effort. Spent the last weekend going around to friends places for sundal and golu visits. And, it is our turn to play hosts this weekend.

Looking forward to Sarawasthi puja, SPB Light music concert etc. for this last Dussera weekend.

Happy Friday!

Hi Mitr,
Happy Dasara,
I should say you are soo lucky to be in the Bay, All that you described about a golu SALE ..and going to others' house for tambulam..everything sounds like it were some place in India !! I soo widh I were there too !!
I have made a spot decision to settle in the Bay in future !!!

Priya,

Just added ur blog to my list...yes, Bay Area, esp. certain parts are the closest you can come to staying in India and getting to enjoy the festivals, desi restaurants, makkal, tamil movies, concerts etc- initially when you make the move here froma ny place, like I moved from Boston, I was shocked to find see desis everywhere and hardly any white folks. With time, you will get used to it and will also come to know that a wide range of people- Asians, Middle Easterners, etc.live here.

Just saw that you bought some stuff at komal vilas for this years gollu. I was interested in buying some stuff this year - do they have a good selection and how are the prices at komal vilas? Or is there a better place to bu ythe same in bay area? Since we have to drive abt 3 hrs to the bay area for this your info will really help me decide.. thank you ..
